On Monday, July 26 I presented my paper Unbounded Opus: Creative Commons and the Composer at the 2010 Aspen Composer's Conference. The paper was received well and it was a fantastic experience. The gist of the paper is that I argue that composers need to rethink complete copyright control in order to better their odds of gaining performances and commissions, the bread and butter of the living composer. I argue that composers should utilize Creative Commons licenses to make it easier for people to share scores and recordings. But, of course, you'll need to read the entire paper to fully understand the arguments. |
