Interiors for Nothing

I began this piece, written for cellist David Boese, by writing the sentence, “David plays the cello.” Using that sentence I derived a series of pitches, which I serialized and used to create a majority of the pitch content. The work also incorporates harmonic aspects of a composition I wrote for my doctoral comprehensive exams, which I had recently completed. Therefore Interiors for Nothing is a hybrid piece incorporating aspects of serialism with non-functional triadic harmonies.
